The recession has inflicted so much misery on workers and their families. There's no one in their corner helping adjust to changes they never saw coming. It's been so painful to watch.
I found my self wishing to raise the proverbial wand and help transform people, get them back in the workforce with a new resume and the good coaching that comes from the process of working together to Create A Great Resume. (vs. completing a questionnaire for a service to write it for you) and unlike most other services, I deliberately priced it to be "do-able" — NOT to break the bank for people facing very stressful times and tight budgets ...
I see and talk to thousands upon thousands of people and resumes Recruiters and Hiring managers are weeding thru piles of the same cookie cutter fill-in the blank resumes and they all begin to look alike. Candidates are frustrated and wonder why no one calls.
A Generic presentation = A generic response.
With numerous phases of downsizing, companies now operate cut to the bone and have learned to continue to operate with reduced staffing. It seems that Wall Street often applauds and reinforces- rewards staff reductions - i.e. "efficiency" with improved stock value.
Less staff also means less sharing of information and the decimation of many in the mid- senior ranks resulted in a loss of mentorship and training for the up and coming in all sizes and types of companies.
Knowledge has not been passed on meaning this younger manager often has less time and a narrower perspective to review – find and assess the "real qualifications" in a written or verbal exchange.
This increases the pressure - importance for a candidate to stand out – grab attention with their qualifications – tell the story to make a powerful, lasting impression of the problems they can solve and potential contributions.
I believe everyone is gifted and special in his or her own way. And part of my gift as The Fairy JobMother is to help others identify and communicate that quality that makes them special.
